The Disadvantages of Cold Rolling. Cold-rolled steel can have a few disadvantages. One is that hot-rolled steel is harder to manipulate than cold-rolled steel. Deforming metal requires steel that is heated above its recrystallization temperature. Seeing as cold-rolled steel is compressed at room temperature, it is much more difficult to shape.
