I have found some wonderful specimens of almandine garnet, quartz, feldspar, and apatite along the tracks of the Adirondack Scenic Railroad in Woodgate, Forestport and Old Forge, NY. They use a smaller (1"-2") ballast thus the peices fit nicely into my pockets as I stroll.
