Gypsum is one of the softest minerals and one of the first minerals to crystalize as seawater evaporates. Thus, gypsum is a naturally occurring water-soluble mineral. Gypsum mineral content in the sedimentary rock termed gypsum varies from 75% to 95%, the rest being formed of chalk and/or clay.
